  • About me | James F O 1

Hello Welcome! I’m a seasoned professional with expertise in software development, focusing on .Net frameworks and SQL Server, paired with a rich academic background in International Security Studies. Beyond my professional and academic pursuits, I’m a passionate worldbuilder and storyteller, crafting immersive narratives and settings showcased in my creative portfolio. My Story I was born and raised in the rugged landscapes of Southern Arizona, where the sun-drenched desert and boundless skies became the backdrop of my early explorations into creativity, history, and technology. My supportive and encouraging parents fostered a home filled with a love of knowledge and a passion for stories. My father, a dedicated historian, and an avid war gamer, played a pivotal role in shaping my interests, introducing me to the world of war gaming and fantasy role-playing from a young age. These experiences sparked a lifelong love for strategy, storytelling, and the immersive worlds of role-playing games that have remained close to my heart. Over the years, my curiosity expanded to encompass music, and I found myself fascinated by various instruments. I took up the flute, oboe, and double bass, and most recently, I even learned to play the eight-course Renaissance lute. I still call Southern Arizona home today, sharing my life with my wife, Taylor, and our daughter, Thistle. Together, we embrace the beauty of the Southwest, enjoying family camping trips and spending time outdoors whenever possible. Despite a busy life, I continue to nurture my passion for role-playing, particularly live-action role-playing (LARP), which lets me immerse myself in different personas and narratives, bringing my love for fantasy to life socially and engagingly. At heart, I am a person who values curiosity, exploration, and the joy of shared stories and experiences, whether through family adventures, historical games, or a well-played lute melody. These elements have defined my journey so far and continue to shape my world, adding richness to my life in big and small ways.

These works reflect my expertise in international security studies, covering topics like democratic promotion, cyber warfare, and geopolitical strategy. Each piece showcases my ability to synthesize complex information and deliver insightful, actionable recommendations. Policy Brief This policy brief analyzes the innovative use of drones by Ukrainian forces during the 2023 summer offensive, focusing on their effectiveness against Russian armor. It explores the tactical advantages, challenges, and future implications of kamikaze and ISR-capable drones. Recommendations highlight critical updates to U.S. and NATO armored vehicle doctrine and anti-drone defense systems. Coding Samples CLR SQL E-Mail Address Parser This CLR function processes a string of email addresses, splitting them into individual entries based on specified delimiters. It accounts for complex cases where addresses may contain quotes, brackets, or parentheses. By identifying boundaries accurately, even within nested structures, it ensures valid separation of addresses. The result is a collection of parsed addresses that can be output as a table for database use. Winds of Fortune Simulator This program simulates thousands of games of "Winds of Fortune," a dice game similar to Yahtzee. Using three pre-defined strategies (Aggressive, Conservative, Strategic), it calculates win rates and records statistical outcomes like specific win types.
